Comedy @ The Comet as we laugh and celebrate local comedy. \nEach Round the audience will vote for their favorite Rookie and Veteran Comedians to move on to the next round. Comedians that move on will perform at the other participating venue in the next round. The Finals are August 30th at Commonwealth Sanctuary\, and the Best of Fest featuring the best non finalists in the contest is on August 31st. Both shows are headlined by Daniel Van Kirk. A fellow comic once referred to Costaki as a “casually brilliant joke philosopher.” He weighs in on everything from parenting and football\, to pirates and rice cakes. And his light swagger\, playful squint\, and wry smile tell you that perhaps there’s more to this multi-layered joke than you first recognized. \nAlso a talented writer\, Costaki’s jokes have appeared on The Tonight Show\, The Late Late Show\, and Best Damn Sports Show Period. He was a writer for BET\, where he was staffed on two of their hit shows. He wrote jokes for Bette Midler’s Kiss My Brass Tour. Costaki spent Spring Break one year in Cancun writing on the MTV show Parental Approval. He also wrote daily for The Complete Sheet\, a DJ prep service that goes out to almost 500 stations worldwide. \nBut he is easily best known for regular segment on the syndicated Bob & Tom Radio Show that reaches some five million people in 140 markets. And that segment has spun off into “Quick Snaps\,” the all-NFL topical version\, which has a weekly home during the season on Sirius XM Satellite Radio. “Quick Snaps” is also a podcast\, and appears weekly on several independent radio shows all over the country. This national exposure has opened the door to Costaki’s dream: people coming to see his live performances “on purpose.” \n \nOssia Dwyer is an instantly endearing and overly self aware comic from Cincinnati\, OH by way of Vermont. Ossia has performed with national acts like Aparna Nancherla\, Pete Lee\, and Matteo Lane and has performed at The Pittsburgh Comedy Festival. She recently taped a comedy special that will be released next year. \n \nWinner of Funniest Person in Cincinnati 2022\, Now Chicago resident Carter Dockerty performs throughout the midwest comedy club circuit where he is a go to opener for comics such as Big Jay Oakerson\, Ali Sultan\, and Ran Barnaclo. He has also performed comedy at Sing Sing Correctional Facility twice and even ripped some guitar solos inside a Mexican prison a couple times too. In 2007\, Variety magazine named Dave one of their “10 Comedians to Watch\,” something he still won’t shut up about. Some things are hard to let go of. \nDave is also a musician who currently sings and plays guitar in the power pop band Valley Lodge\, whose song “Go” is the theme song to HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver\, and the psych/garage rock band Painted Doll. Born in Cincinnati\, she moved to Chicago and began studying and performing various types of comedy. Laura is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory. For the last decade and half\, her focus has been on stand up comedy. Laura co-produces and hosts a comedy variety show in Chicago called “Keep Coming Back”\, and co-produces a stand up showcase in Evanston called “Laughs on a Hot Tin Roof”. \nThe granddaughter of Sicilian immigrants who ran Cave of the Winds\, the legendary Chicago supper club that hosted touring vaudeville acts\, Christine Ferrera creates work in performance\, video and painting that explores the intersection of art and comedy. Occupying a unique place in the span of feminist art\, her intimate stories begin with a familiar experience and gradually veer into liminal and unpredictable terrain\, revealing their emotional core. \nFerrera’s work has been presented at festivals internationally and centers around themes of feminism\, capitalism\, existential anxiety\, and self-sabotage. She has appeared on NPR’s The Story and The Signal and was a featured solo performer in the 2014 Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Ferrera has received many awards\, including a 2007 artist residency at the Sanskriti Foundation in New Delhi\, a 2013 Maryland State Arts Council Award\, a 2019 Creativity Grant and a 2020 Emergency Relief Grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. She lives and works and eats and prays and loves in Chicago\, USA. \nSpencer Domolky is a Cincinnati comedian by way of Lexington\, Kentucky. Spencer performs all over the Midwest\, delighting crowds with his dry\, yet playful stage demeanor. After winning the 2012 Funniest Person in Cincinnati competition\, Sam relocated to New York City in order to pursue comedy further. He was rewarded in 2014 when he was selected as on of the New Faces at Just For laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. He has been featured on Sirius XM and the Audible comedy podcast “Sounds Like America” \nChris Weir is a former winner of the Funniest Person in Cincinnati Contest. He’s opened for Tom Segura\, Nikki Glaser\, and Chad Daniels. He can be heard on Sirius XM\, Spotify\, and Audible. Chris is also a member of the sketch comedy group “Future Science.” He can be seen later this month at Chameleon on the 16th & 17th. She is a producer with Rocketship Comedy and co-hosts a series of benefit shows that have raised over $15\,000 for reproductive health organizations in the Midwest. \nScott Eason is a comedian (you probably figured that out) from Huntsville\, Alabama (you might not have known that) and he knows what you’re thinking…and to answer your question he has no idea why he doesn’t have a southern accent.
